This three-wheeled electric scooter is challenging mobility by fitting into a rather unique category. After all, it is neither a motorcycle nor a car.

The XYTE One, from the German company XYTE Mobility, is essentially a tricycle that can be driven like a microcar, thanks to its integrated “safety cell.”

It acts as a protective cage built around the rider. This means the XYTE One can be legally ridden without a helmet in certain regions, which already makes it stand out in the field of micromobility.

Another factor is its accessibility. The XYTE One was designed to be operated with a standard driver’s license, eliminating the need for a motorcycle-specific license.

As it was developed for urban riders who need a vehicle for daily commuting, don’t expect large numbers in terms of the scooter’s capabilities.

Its top speed is around 100 km/h (about 62 mph), which is more than enough for city streets and main roads, while its range is rated at over 110 km (about 68 miles) on a single charge, making it perfect for daily commutes.

Inside, it features a 10-inch touchscreen, LTE connectivity, and a mobile app with navigation and remote monitoring functions, while all lighting is LED.

Other attributes include a 72-liter trunk, useful for carrying grocery bags, and a reverse gear to facilitate maneuvering in tight spaces.

The vehicle was first introduced last September during the IAA Mobility in Munich, Germany. For the first 500 units, the brand offered a promotional price of €13,008 (approximately US$15,200).
